CLTAMN Board Members Attend National Day Reception in History Museum of Chicago

On September 17, the President and Vice President of CLTA-MN were honored to be invited to the 2025 National Day Reception hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, celebrating the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Consul General Baodong Wang highlighted China's achievements and the crucial role of the Chinese community and education sector in strengthening U.S.-China exchanges. This meaningful event fostered vital connections and opened doors for future collaboration in Chinese language education and cultural exchange.

K-12 Chinese Immersion Programs (updating…)

Minnesota leads in Chinese language education with five dedicated immersion programs that provide students with comprehensive Mandarin learning experiences from an early age.

Chinese Immersion Programs at Minnesota

Minnesota leads the Midwest in Chinese immersion education with six comprehensive programs. These programs show remarkable success with students achieving advanced proficiency levels by 8th grade and maintaining strong academic performance in all subject areas.

K-12 Non-Immersion & Private Options (updating…)

Breck School

Located in Golden Valley, this PreK-12 private school offers Chinese as part of its world language curriculum, providing students with traditional language instruction in a comprehensive educational environment.

International School of Minnesota

This Eden Prairie private school (PreK-12) features daily Chinese instruction and offers AP Chinese courses, allowing students to achieve advanced proficiency while maintaining a global educational focus.

White Bear Lake Area Schools

This public school district offers Mandarin as a world language option at the elementary level, introducing younger students to Chinese language basics within a traditional educational framework.

These non-immersion programs provide alternatives for families seeking Chinese language education without full immersion, balancing language acquisition with traditional educational approaches.

University-Level Chinese Programs

Traditional University Programs

Multiple institutions offer standard Chinese language courses, including University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Macalester College, St. Olaf College, Carleton College, and UMN-Duluth. These programs feature traditional coursework from introductory to advanced levels, often with study abroad opportunities.

UFM Chinese Flagship Program

This intensive, federally-funded program provides honors-level language training with weekly tutoring and includes a capstone year in Taiwan. Designed for high-commitment learners seeking professional-level proficiency.

Concordia Language Villages

Located near Moorhead, this unique program offers summer Chinese immersion camps for ages 7-18 in a residential language village setting, providing an immersive cultural and linguistic experience.
